Kid's Course: Making Sense (Age: 8 - 10)

At this age, children are developing a more conscious relationship with the world — and with the work they make in it. These sessions build on that growing awareness, introducing observation drawing, narrative through image, collage, and mixed media, while keeping the exploratory spirit of the earlier group fully intact.

Everything here is investigation: what do you notice? What do you want to say? What happens when you try it a different way? Chuva teaches this group with the same foundational belief that runs through everything at Demeter — that every child in the room already has a creative voice. The work is to help them hear it.

Kid's Course: The First Mark (Age: 5 - 7)

The youngest group at Demeter is given the most open invitation. At this age, play and making are the same thing — and that is exactly how these sessions are structured. Children work with paint, collage, clay, and a range of materials, following their own curiosity with Chuva alongside them: present, encouraging, and always allowing the outcome to belong to the child.

The experience is everything: being someone who makes things — freely, joyfully, with full ownership of what emerges.

Kid's Course: Studio Practice (Age: 14 - 17)

The oldest group at Demeter is treated as what they are: young artists. Sessions in this group go deeper into both the technical and the conceptual — what is this work about? What are you trying to do, and is the material serving that intention? How do you develop an idea across multiple sessions, rather than arriving at a finished piece each time?

Students work across drawing, painting, digital, and mixed media. They are encouraged to develop a body of work over a term rather than isolated pieces — building the habits and the confidence of a genuine studio practice. The conversation in the room is real.

Weekend mornings. All materials provided. Ages 14–17. Limited spaces per term.

Practice as purpose

Our teaching style is flexible yet also structured; in any given class, we focus on understanding the qualities of materials, how composition and structure shape the work, and how to use different techniques effectively. We welcome learners at every stage: complete beginners, those returning after years away, and those who already have a practice but want something different from it.
