Frequently Asked Questions

  • We offer a variety of ways to engage with the studio. You'll find art courses for children and adults. We also host community breakfasts, transformational coaching, long table dinners, and a running club. Additionally, our space features a monthly rotating gallery and street-facing window installation. Check the shop for courses and our Instagram for new events and pop-ups.

  • The easiest way to begin is to simply come in. You can experience the process of creation that happens here, sign up for a class, or join our running club. To stay connected as new offerings emerge, follow us on Instagram

  • Demeter is a living, working studio. We are two working artists who built this space because we needed it, and we invite you into our ongoing exploration. We believe creativity is akin to breathing, though it often gets covered over by education that rewards just finding the "right" answer. In our adult courses, we focus on paying attention to the process rather than managing the outcome. For children, our responsibility is to protect their innate knowledge of how to play creatively and give it room.

  • You can reach out through our website's contact form, drop by, or connect with us on Instagram [@demeter.cph].

If you are interested in coaching, an initial conversation with Chuva is available to explore if we feel we’re a good fit for each other. chuva@demetercph.com

  • Our prices vary depending on the specific class, and a full breakdown can be found in our shop. The investment reflects Michael and Chuva's highly skilled backgrounds, their extensive knowledge, and their personal engagement in imparting this craft to their students. We keep our classes intentionally small to ensure individual attention within an intimate, unique environment designed to nourish experimentation and craft.

  • It is an invitation into a specific world. Whether you are a child making your first real marks or an adult returning to your creative instincts, the experience is exploratory and alive. You will find yourself in a room where curiosity is the only real requirement. Because we mix complete beginners with people who have an established practice, you will likely learn just as much from the people beside you as from the teaching

  • For all of our children's weekend courses , all materials are provided. If you are joining the Digital Drawing Procreate Workshop, you will need to bring your own iPad and Procreate software.

For the Drawing Composition and Oil Painting for Adults courses materials are not included.

  • Our kid’s courses are designed to give children genuine creative freedom that is open-ended and entirely their own. To ensure the outcome and discovery belong solely to the child, Chuva works directly alongside them as a guiding and encouraging presence. Because of this, parents drop their children off so the young artists can fully own their space and creative process. Feel free to wait out in the gallery space and have a coffee, or come back at the end of class.

  • We completely understand that life happens and unexpected things come up. However, because our classes are intentionally kept very small to ensure individual attention, we do not offer refunds for unattended classes. Missed classes will be forfeited and cannot be made up at a later date. We ask for your understanding, as this policy helps us maintain the rhythm of the group and prevents disruptions to our scheduling and the other students' experiences. If you know you cannot make it to a session, please try to let us know in advance so we can plan the day accordingly!

  • Yes, we love having dogs visit! They are warmly welcomed in the gallery room, which is the very first room you step into when you arrive at the studio.

  • We are always happy to serve you a warm cup of coffee during your visit, but we kindly ask that you do not bring outside food into the studio workspaces.

  • Our movement practice currently centers around our Running Club. We view running as a powerful form of exploration where the body moves and the mind releases its grip. If you like social running, or if you like to run silently or with headphone son, you’re welcome.
If you’ve never run before, but are curious, you’re welcome.
    All paces are welcome.

  • Demeter is located in a basement space, which means there are six steps to walk down upon entering the studio. Because of this architectural limitation, we unfortunately do not have wheelchair access at this time.

  • Yes, both Michael and Chuva offer private art lessons. If you are interested in working with either of them individually, please email them directly or stop by the studio with your questions.
