This camp begins with a question that has interested artists for as long as there have been artists: What does a face mean? What do you show, and what do you conceal? How does it move, how does it feel? Masks have been made for ritual, for theatre, for protection, for transformation. This week, we make them here.
Over three mornings, children work through drawing, painting, and construction — building their own faces and masks from materials in the studio. The work echoes what Michael and Chuva are making in their own practice right now. We look at different types of masks and drawings of faces spanning different time periods and cultures. This is an investigation, scaled to the age of the child doing it.
On the third day, each child takes their work home. Wear it, hang it, keep it, share it.
All courses are taught in English.
