Material Alchemy is a mixed media art course for adults, spread across 3 evenings. Every background is welcome here, from a first-time maker to someone returning to a practice they set down years ago. This course is a place where you're invited to experiment with different mediums — collage, polymer medium, and a range of tools from brushes and pencils to wood and textile — to find your own expressive voice. The work that comes out of this course is varied, from sculptural to 2D.
These evenings are about learning to get out of your own way and allow your innermost creative self to pour out onto something. We learn how materials move and react to each other, and how to create outside of the typical rectangle perspective. Each session begins with an introduction to an artist who worked prominently with mixed media, then moves into a deep dive of exploration. Some people leave this class with new tools that enhance their current practice; others leave having enjoyed a night of expression with new friends, feeling inspired.
