How do we fill the spaces left behind by those we love?
Join us for a conversation with Copenhagen-based Indian illustrator and designer Radhika Chitalia.
When Radhika lost her father, his expired passport remained in a drawer in India for a long time. He had planned to spend his retirement traveling the world with her mother, but passed away before he got the chance. Throwing the passport away was out of the question, so Radhika brought it to her desk in Copenhagen, picked up a brush, and transformed it into an artwork titled P455PORT.
Using Mughal miniature art and Indian folk traditions as her visual language, the project became a way to hold on to him, and to fill the pages he never got to use.
On November 14th, Radhika and Gus Guerrero, founder of Curious Neighbours, are sitting down together at Demeter Creative Research Center to discuss the making of this project, the questions and feelings the artist wrestled with throughout the process, and about what it’s like to turn something that heavy into something that beautiful.
Before and after the conversation, you’ll also be able to wander through an exhibition of Radhika’s original paintings, curated and presented by Demeter.
When: November 14th, 19:00
Where: Demeter, Schacksgade 9, kl, th, København K
