An art studio, open for discovery and learning.

Welcome in.

Demeter is a working artist studio in Copenhagen — an invitation into the minds and making of Michael and Chuva, and a living reminder that creativity is not something you're lucky to have. It's something you already are.

Gallery & Studio

Some of what happens at Demeter doesn't need a booking.

On certain mornings and afternoons each week, the door is simply open. Come in for a coffee. Ask about what's on the wall, or the upcoming exhibitions. If something you see makes you want to begin a conversation about a commission, that conversation is welcome here. If you just want to be in a room where something real is being made, that is welcome too.

No agenda necessary. Just curiosity.

Kid’s Courses

Children come to us already creative. We meet that aliveness — and then offer it something to work with, because creativity without any craft is just energy in a room. And the children who leave here leave knowing how to do something with theirs.

Our classes are built around the same five practices that form the foundation of any working artist's studio: sketching, drawing, painting, collage, and three-dimensional making. Your children are offered the same investigations, the same questions, the same materials, alongside working artists.

Each group is shaped around where its students are developmentally. A five-year-old and an eleven-year-old are in genuinely different relationships with the world, and with making things.

Check the shop for more info and scheduling. Spaces are limited. Register in advance.

Adult Courses

The courses at Demeter provide a foundation in strong art-making habits, built on diverse artistic backgrounds and a belief that everyone develops their own process and technique over time—we want to help you unlock yours. Our teaching style is flexible yet also structured; in any given class, we focus on understanding the qualities of materials, how composition and structure shape the work, and how to use different techniques effectively. We welcome adults at every stage: complete beginners, those returning after years away, and those who already have a practice but want something different from it.

The most interesting things happen when you bring together people with varied experiences in a room focused on art and design. The experience informs the work, builds friendships, deepens understanding of process and quality, and may even awaken a lifelong pursuit of drawing or painting. We welcome the chance to bring you into our studio and our projects, and to share in your next artistic step.

Chuva Featherstone

Chuva is a transformational coach, artist, designer, and educator — and at Demeter, all of it is present at once. Her coaching is the outward expression of the same inner investigation she brings to the canvas, a living extension of her creative practice. She works with both children and adults, and her deepest conviction is this: the creative impulse is already there. It has always been there. The work is to clear what has been covering it.

Michael Sherman

Michael is an artist/illustrator and teacher, drawing and painting for as long as he can remember. For years, that meant the individual practice, the solo studio, the exhibitions. What he found himself wanting, over time, was community — the particular aliveness of a room where humans are all following their own curiosity at once. At Demeter, he is building the space he always wanted to work in.

Let’s keep the door open

Demeter is currently taking shape. New offerings will continue to emerge as the studio grows. The best way to stay close to what's happening is to join our newsletter and follow us on Instagram — that's where the story unfolds in real time.
